Do you struggle to find time to actually work on your work in progress? Do you dream of the day when you're all caught up so you can focus on and prioritize your writing? If only the children would stop needing food and clean clothing, the dog didn't need to be walked, or that pesky "day job" would stop cramping your creative style, your novel or memoir would be published already!
While it's true that your book manuscript or other writing project is not going to write itself and will only get done if you set aside time on your calendar to get words on the page, it's also true that the world is never going to stop in order for you to do that. And that's why, this summer, you don't want to miss this special mid-week, two-night retreat that will make your dream of quality, dedicated, distraction-free writing time a reality!

The Mid-Summer Writes Dream retreat will be held at a unique, idyllic property on Vashon Island that offers the best of both worlds: outdoor camping in a quiet, peaceful setting completely immersed in nature, with access to the basic comforts of home (flushing toilets, showers, electricity, wifi, and a full kitchen)! This glamping-style retreat was intentionally designed to be affordable and accessible to as many writers as possible, with options to fit any budget, camping comfort level, and writing style.

LODGING
Lodging options include: Bring your own tent (or campervan or small RV -- but note there are no hookups) --OR-- Upgrade to on-site shared lodging - a teepee with beds included (shared with up to 3 other writers; bedding not included). |

ACTIVITIES
The loose, mostly unstructured format allows for maximum writing time, on your own schedule. Sleep in as late as you want! Eat on your own schedule. Don't take a shower if you don't want to. With only one planned group writing activity and two dinners together (all optional), you are free to spend as much time as you want on your writing, wherever you find most comfortable and conducive to creativity and productivity!

Group Activity: Acting Out
What Mid-Summer Writes Dream event would be complete without a little Shakespearean fun? For the one scheduled group writing activity, we'll take scenes from our works in progress, or write new ones together, and take turns acting them out to test the readability, logic, and emotional impact of the narration, action, dialogue, and nonverbal body language. For this activity, we'll take the stage in the Secret Garden in the forest! |
Dinner will be prepared on both nights for those who upgrade to the plant-based meals option; those who are bringing their own food will be welcome to join for these scheduled group dinners. All meals can be eaten indoors or outdoors!

FOOD
There are also two meal options for the retreat: Bring all your own food (BYO) --OR-- Upgrade to have food provided: This option includes access to a selection of nourishing, organic, plant-based meals throughout the retreat, from dinner Wednesday through breakfast on Friday, including snacks and beverages. Please note that, with the exception of dinner (for upgraded food option), all participants will be responsible for preparing/cooking their own meals, regardless of which meal option is selected. This significantly helps keep the cost down and the retreat affordable and accessible to more writers. Coffee and tea will be included for all participants, no matter which meal or lodging options you choose. |
All meals provided with the upgrade option will be simple and quick to prepare, such as just adding hot water or heating in the microwave, stove, or toaster, but will be healthy, whole-food, completely plant-based selections -- to keep the body nourished and energized and the brain focused for optimum creativity and productivity for your writing time! The final menu will be determined based on availability in early August, but a sample full day might be:
- Breakfast: instant oatmeal, bagels, fresh fruit
- Lunch: lentil soup with bread or crackers
- Dinner: enchiladas & salad or black bean burgers & onion rings
- Snacks: chips & salsa, crackers & hummus, fresh and/or dried fruit, nuts, energy bars
- Beverages: a selection of sparkling water flavors

Event Terms & Agreements
By registering for this event, you agree that:
Cancellation Policy
Up to 30 days prior to start of event: 90% refund
14 - 29 days prior to event: 75% refund
7 - 13 days prior to event: 50% refund
3 - 6 days prior to event: No refunds; 50% credit for future events
0 - 2 days prior to event/no-shows: No refunds or credit
- you are physically able to participate in the level specified for this activity
- you are at least 18 years of age (no one under age 18 permitted at this event)
- you will treat all other participants with kindness and respect
- you will follow all rules and regulations of the city, state, and event venue(s)
- you will not share event details with anyone else, to respect privacy of participants (if you know of other writers who may be interested, please direct them to this event page for details)
- in the unlikely event that any personal injury or property loss or damage occurs while participating in this event, you will not hold the event organizer or host responsible
- you will notify the event organizer as soon as possible if you are unable to attend, to assist with coordination and allow those on the wait list to join if space is limited
- you understand that transportation is not included in the price and all participants are responsible for any transportation costs, such as ferry fees (carpool signup will be sent out after registration is confirmed)
