Writing Retreats
Plein-Air Prose hosts a variety of retreats throughout the year. Some are mini one-day retreats that least for the full day or just a few hours; others are overnight affairs that might include some writing instruction sessions and/or consultations with editors or writing coaches. Below are details and photos from a few of these events.
Write-Out on the Water Mini Retreat
October 2024 On this mini writing retreat that took us out of the woods and onto the water, we started our timed writing sessions while on board the one-hour ferry from downtown Seattle to Bremerton, WA, where we were inspired and rejuvenated by spectacular maritime, mountain, and island scenery as we crossed Puget Sound.
In Bremerton, we had just enough time for another timed writing session, this time en plein air at the nearby Harborside Fountain Park, before the rains came and we took cover in cafes and pubs along the waterfront. The long ferry ride back to Seattle offered another chance for dedicated, focused time to spend on our writing projects, which included literary fiction, YA novels, memoirs, nonfiction books, and poetry. |
First-Draft Focus Writing Retreat
July 2024
July 2024
This two-night writing retreat was held on Vashon Island, just a quick 20-minute ferry ride from West Seattle, and was a huge success as participants focused on making progress with first drafts of their manuscripts. Timed writing sessions were held under the trees, in the grass, on the moss, and next to the water. There was plenty of time to chat about projects, give each other feedback and encouragement, and read writing craft books. The wildlife viewing and shared plant-based meals made the experience even more enjoyable, peaceful, relaxing, and rejuvenating!
