Indoor Write-outs
Many writing groups offer "write-ins," where writers get together, either in person or online, to do writing sprints or timed writing sessions together. Write-Outs are the Plein-Air Prose equivalent, except we hold all our writing sessions in person and usually outdoors. However, in the winter months when it's not practical or possible to write truly en plein air, we find semi-outdoor or indoor spaces with natural views and/or nature-themed settings. At each Write-Out event, there are timed, quiet, focused writing sessions, as well as breaks for chatting and discussing our works in progress. There are always supplies available for creative meditation and/or writing prompts to help shift the mind into the right mode for writing and productivity, and often a selection of writing craft books to peruse and use during the event. These events are always FREE and open to writers of any type (with registration; join the mailing list for notifications and details for upcoming events). Below are some of our past indoor Write-Outs.
Write-Out in the Greenhouse
March 2025 For this end-of-winter indoor Write-Out, we spent the day inside the multi-room greenhouse of the Volunteer Park Conservatory in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, surrounded by succulents, cactus, ferns, and a variety of other beautiful, inspiring plants from around the world. Writers found cozy benches in leafy nooks or brought their own chairs to set up near their favorite flora.

Write-Out over the Water
January 2025 For this winter Write-Out, we travelled a bit south of Seattle to this library built over a river in Renton, WA! With comfy chairs along the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the water, and shelves of books all around, it was the perfect place to spend a Sunday working on book manuscripts. The continuous flocks of geese flying through the blue sky and the mergansers bobbing in the river provided a dose of nature to add to the quiet, peaceful setting and help with creativity and productivity.

Write-Out on the Edge
November 2024 For writers who were feeling a bit edgy in November, we met inside the cozy, nature-inspired cafe lounge of the Edgewater Hotel, which overlooks Puget Sound. With plenty of comfy seats, a fireplace, and the company of other local writers, this serene setting was the perfect place to spend a cold, rainy day with dedicated, focused time on our WIPs!
