Outdoor Write-outs
Many writing groups offer "write-ins," where writers get together, either in person or online, to do writing sprints or timed writing sessions together. Write-Outs are the Plein-Air Prose equivalent, except we hold all our writing sessions in person and outdoors (or semi-outdoors in winter months), in a natural or nature-themed setting. At each Write-Out event, there are timed, quiet, focused writing sessions, as well as breaks for chatting and discussing our works in progress. There are always supplies available for creative meditation and/or writing prompts to help shift the mind into the right mode for writing and productivity, and often a selection of writing craft books to peruse and use during the event. These events are always FREE and open to writers of any type (with registration; join the mailing list for notifications and details for upcoming events). Below are some of our past outdoor Write-Outs.
Write-Out Wednesdays
August 2024 Every Wednesday during the month of August, the Plein-Air Prose Posse met at a different natural area in Seattle to take advantage of the sunny weather (sometimes!) and write among the trees, birds, and other local writers. Locations included Carkeek Park, Woodland Park, Magnuson Park, and Ravenna Park, where we sat and wrote at picnic tables or in our own folding chairs and made progress on a variety of projects: memoirs and other nonfiction, novels, personal essays, how-to articles, and more!

Write-Out Hike & Walk in the Woods
September 2024
September 2024
Sometimes instead of staying stationary and writing at picnic tables, we like to combine a bit of aerobic exercise with our writing to get our creative juices flowing in between timed writing sessions. The Write-Out Walk was held at Meadowbrook Pond in Northeast Seattle, where we strolled at a leisurely pace while viewing the many different birds in the water and surrounding trees, then stopped to write at various points along the way.
The Write-Out Hike offered a more vigorous workout with a moderately paced trek through part of the extensive, diverse trail system of Carkeek Park in Northwest Seattle. In between getting our hearts pumping, we stopped at various points for timed, focused writing sessions surrounded by the intriguing trees, lush plants, and active birds of this coastal forest along the Puget Sound. |
